Sarongs &
Sulus
To the uninitiated, a Sulu looks nothing more than an oddly shaped
table-cloth. But for those in the know the rectangular-shaped can be
worn as a versatile beach wrap, skirt or dress.
Here are some
suggestions on now to tie a Sulu, as you become more confident,
other ways may occur to you.
Note: For all
the ties, make sure your body is in the middle of the material so
the Sulu folds evenly.

Mini-dress or
shirt: One of the
simplest ties. Place
the sulu widthwise under the arms. Grab
a handful of material from each end to form ear’s.
Tie these in a knot above the bust.
For a skirt, place the material at waist level, tying .in the
front or at the sides, depending where you want the put the split.

|
Double-knot
dress or top: Place the
sulu widthwise under your arms, holding the two ends in the front.
Twist ends firmly around each other twice.
The ends can then be brought up and tied at the back of the
neck, or they can be pulled to one side with one end pulled under
the arm and tied on the sholder as illustrated.

Sun-dress:
Hold the material widthwise, folding the top over about two
inches for neatness. Place
the sulu against your body so that the top covers your chest.
Holding the ends, cross them over at the back and tie again
in the front. This tie
is difficult to maneuver and it may be necessary to hold the
material up in front with your chin as you cross the ends over at
the back.

|
Playsuit:
Hold the material lengthways and tie at the waist with the
knot in front. Thread
the material through the legs, pull up over the chest folding the
top over once for neatness, and tie in a knot on the back.
