Labyrinth Of Fiji

On a peaceful small island in the South Pacific there exists a large outdoor labyrinth that is very conducive to spiritual evolution.

The Sunset Point Labyrinth entrance looking toward the center.   Note that the centerline is on the slight crest of the peninsula.

It not only goes back and forth, but, like life itself - it also goes up and down.  Its single path leads through the four quadrants similar to the world famous 12th century sacred labyrinth found in the Notre Dame Cathedral in Chartres, France, and at the Grace Cathedral in San Francisco.

Looking North.

The diameter is 50 feet, with paths 22 inches wide.   Small purple plants and rocks are on the circumference and in the areas wherever a turn is located.

The 50-foot diameter labyrinth is built on a gently sloping lawn on the crest of a hill of a private peninsula surrounded by the blue peaceful tropical ocean.

The 360-degree views are spectacular.

To the south on a distant island is a mile-high mountain range.  To the west can be seen the native island where the Molake people have lived for hundreds of years.  To the north, on a distant hillside, are a vast series of ancient rock designs that have aroused scientific curiosity similar to the speculation about Easter Island and Stonehenge.  This labyrinth is located in one of the most inviting natural beauty settings for quiet meditation found anywhere in the world.

The center stone provides a unique spiritual experience by transmitting a vortex sensation into the person standing on the stone.

The peninsula is called Sunset Point where often the late afternoons see the sky change to the spectacular colors of red, orange, and gold.

Following the custom of removing ones shoes when entering a holy place, the visitor may experience a unique sensation in the center of the labyrinth.

By standing or sitting on this flat rock in the center of the labyrinth one can feel the vortex force coming up from the earth.  The small pumice rocks surrounding the center rock floated to our island from an underwater volcano near Tonga, 500 miles away.

There is a large flat stone on which one stands to meditate.  People who have experienced the earth's vortex in Sedona, Arizona, claim they felt the same forces coming out of that center stone, but in an anticlockwise direction.

This small island of Nananu-I-Ra is "off-the-beaten-path" with a tranquil pace of life with no stores, no roads and no automobiles, making it an ideal location to experience the healing self-awareness and stress reducing properties of the labyrinth.  It is considered by those who have experienced the secluded 12 acres to be a glimpse of the South Pacific of old.

This Sunset Point labyrinth was officially opened during the blessing by the Reverend Pastor Temesia Dakui of the RakiRaki Circuit of the Methodist Church of Fiji.

This Sunset Point labyrinth was officially opened on 22 May 2004 during the blessing by the Reverend Pastor Temesia Dakui of the RakiRaki Circuit of the Methodist Church of Fiji.

From the Prairie Labyrinth in Missouri, we find this commentary:

A labyrinth imitates Life's journey leading us through all the reversals or constant turns that are a part of living.  Walking an ancient pattern that universally reflects unity and wholeness is a grounding experience, inspiring us to practice change in a balanced way.  The art of living is the art of changing directions.

The Woodlawn Memorial Park in Orlando, Florida, also has an outdoor labyrinth.  Its chairman has this interesting observation:

Why does the labyrinth attract people?  Walking the labyrinth clears the mind and gives insight to one's spiritual journey.  It calms people in the throes of life's transitions.  It is a tool to guide healing, deeper self-knowledge, and empower creativity. It helps one find the inner self.  It is a place to talk and pray to your God.

Here in tranquil peacefulness abide!
