The Web Site For Out of the Way Fiji Travel |
A
Quick Introduction to Fiji.
Fiji
was once known as the “Cannibal Islands.
It
is thought that Fiji was settled people about 4,000 ago.
They have left evidence that they were making pottery, which some has survived, about 1300 BC. There are approximately 325 islands that make up the Fiji
Islands. Only about 100 or so are
actually inhabited. The population
is comprised of Melanesians, Indians, Polynesians, Micronesians, and a small
number of Chinese and Europeans. Being
this diverse, each of its peoples has their own religion, culture, beliefs, and
food. Travel to Fiji, while more
expensive than going to Hawaii, Mexico or the Caribbean due to the costs of the
air transportation, is much less expensive for Americans than Hawaii or the
Caribbean. Accommodations,
entertainment and food are very reasonable in Fiji, which can off-set the cost
of getting there. Fiji gives you a
very good value for your money whatever your budget might be.
The accommodations range from the very exclusive, very private islands
that serve the very wealthy down to the backpacker hostels.
The majority of the accommodation falls somewhere in between.
With the downturn in the economy since 2000, the value of the Fijian
dollar has fallen, making travel from the United States especially attractive.
